Summary

Om Unit and Jubei operate at the sharp end of drum and bass: producers whose work carries weight far beyond the genre. The visual work had to match that seriousness without becoming self-important. For Om Unit's Metalheadz release, the brief was deliberately open — the only hard constraint was the 12-inch square format. We went through eight directions before one stuck. The final is always obvious in hindsight. The result is artwork that feels physical even on a screen: something that holds up in a shop bin, in a digital storefront and in a collector's hands.

Challenge

Create visuals with enough identity to carry the release without overproducing the idea. The artwork needed to feel like Om Unit and Jubei, not like Soda's style imposed on them.

Approach

We kept the visual language stripped back and tonally precise. Multiple rounds of direction, honest feedback and willingness to kill ideas that were good but not right. The final direction emerged from understanding what the artists' music actually feels like — not what it looks like in a mood board.

Outcome

A sharper visual frame around the releases and artist identities — artwork that feels owned rather than decorated.
